Below are some rules, we, the prom committee, have been given and which are
REQUIRED BY RICHMOND COUNTY RECREATION DEPARTMENT. Please read these carefully and if you have questions, please let us know. Note these policies are the ones Richmond County has in place for all proms, they are aware home schooled teens are usually not teens who cause trouble, HOWEVER, we all must follow their rules:
  • The facility prohibits us from collecting money at the door.  All fees MUST BE PAID IN ADVANCE by  Sunday, March 20, 2011. This means the check MUST be in the hands of one of the prom committee members by midnight Sunday. (we have to give a firm count on numbers Monday March 21!)
  • Due to the number of allowed people in the building, unless you are a designated chaperone, the city will not allow any other people (parents, siblings, youth ministers, etc) to enter the Julian Smith facility building. The city requires each person in the building to wear a wristband and the number of bands is limited to accommodate attendees and chaparones only.  We wish we could flex this, but if we allow parents to come in and go over the number allowed, we may have prom teens who will not be allowed inside if they arrive late. (These rules are based on fire city codes, etc) Parents are encouraged to take pictures outside in the front and the back of the building.  Behind the building is beautiful and scenic, perfect for photos.
  • All attendees MUST be OUT OF THE BUILDING and off the premises by 11PM.   Good news is that we have gotten permission for parents to ENTER the building at 10:45PM to pick up their children/students, take a few pictures, and say hello to all the prom attendees. Please note if students are not picked up or do not leave on time, the city will charge another full hour of security. We would in that case have to pass that on to the tardy parent.  Please plan ahead to be there early.
  • Once inside, students are NOT ALLOWED to leave the building.  If they leave the building, they may not return. Please remind your young person to think before they come in the building to bring all that is needed (camera, purse, etc). The chaperones can leave the building if we have a teen who needs us to go to their car, but want to encourage them to think ahead.

In regard to the young men, you may wear  a suit or a tuxedos, please do what works for  your budget and your style. Since this is a formal event, we do request you come dressed for the occasion. The Prom will be fully chaperoned.  In addition, two sheriff’s deputies will be on duty throughout the entire event.  [Law enforcement is a city rule.]
